I found this Commander on GB
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=93664003

My question is: is it a recent Commander? It is advertised as NIB. However, all the other new Commanders I am finding are polished blue finish. The one in the link is described as matte blue.

Any info on this?

It is a 1991A1 Commander which at the time was the economy model. Dull finish, plastic trigger and MSH to cut costs. They shoot ok and have been the basis for some really nice fixups and full customs.

I have a 1991a1 Government model that was part of the same series. I like it a lot and it's one of the most well fitted together unmodified Colts I have that were not sold as being "enhanced. Nice solid gun that will take a beating with little care except for a few drops of oil now and then. You don't have to worry much about scratching the finish.

I didn't know until Jim said so that the Commander version has plastic, or polymer parts, but the two are easily changed out if they bother you. My gun's pieces are all steel.

I'm not sure about that price though. Seems like the models were priced lower than that when issued, but I could be wrong about that. I paid $550. for the gun I just described a couple of months ago. It's a used gun but like new and I have the box, paper, and other inclusions that come with a new one.

I don't think it's priced too bad, considering it's an "out of production" Colt....BUT, you can get a NIB Colt Commander (current production model number 04691) for around $690. I think it sorta' depends on what you're after... The '91A1's are excellent guns from what i understand, and as Hill said, handle "wear" quite well with their parkerized finish. I think for the price difference i'd go with the current production model.
Good luck!

Well I just picked up a LNIB 1991 A1 parked model for 575.00.

Works for me. My second Colt.

There ya go- you're gonna' like that one. Right out of the box it'll outshoot a lot of more expensive dolled up guns from other makers. It's like something you'd be issued instead of a candied up civilian version if you know what I mean. A tool for a job.
