View Full Version : New Gold Cup Trophy sights?
Valhalla SS

I am wanting to buy a new Gold Cup Trophy. I just can't see the black on black sights anymore. The stainless version comes with a dovetailed front, the blued version comes with a partridge type front. In terms of switching the sights out for something I can see, would it matter which version I bought as far as replacement ease? availability of aftermarket sights? etc? I pulled the triggers side by side with a Colt Special Combat which was priced $450 more than the trophy, and I feel the GC Trophy had better trigger than the Special Combat, and think it's a beautiful gun.

I also have some trouble seeing black on black sights.
I thought that is why they invented bright red fingernail polish for the front and white to put two dots on the rear sight.
That contrast works well for me.

Be aware that a blued GCT is a flat top. The SS is round. Sometimes I find that the flat tops are a bit easier to sight up. The overall pistol GCT VS SCG if I was looking for a great pistol for target ect... I probably would spend the extra bucks on the SCG. I have found them to be a notch above the current non Custom shop pistols. Just my 2cents. Good luck in your decision.

Colt used a common cut for mounting the sights on the SS GCT. I think it's the "Bomar cut" but I haven't yet had a need to get real clear on whether it's that or the "Novak cut". Someone here should be able to tell you with more assurance.
Once you know which mounting cuts it has you can go shopping for any sight set you like that's available in that cut.
By "cut" I mean the characteristics and measurements of the two dovetail notches, the depth of the flat under the rear sight, and the milled notch at the back of the slide as best viewed from the side of the pistol.
To use sights made to mount in a way not provided for on the pistol will require either that you mill the needed cuts or have a gunsmith do it for you. It's a very common thing - not too expensive.

Colts front dove tail cut is an oddball..
I believe you will find that Champion and Trijicon are the only readily available replacements.
