This first picture is the Colt roll marking on the left side of my gunsite CCO.

This is of course a picture of the Gunsite Logo.

Wow! Great clarity! It must be a really good camera. You probably could photograph a knat's eyeball with that lens.

Justin, you need to send that to Accurate for the master polish so the "Colt" will be level like the older guns were.

Who???. Just kidding, I'll keep them coming the best I can. The hard part is thinking of original ideas and getting the lighting just right..

Justin, great pics!

This may be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway. Why do the rollmarks stand out rather than being indented? It seems to me if they are pressed and rolled into the metal it would create an indention rather than an elevation.

The letters are indented. However the stamping process displaces the metal.
Metal being very dense the molecules are not absorbed into each other. Therefore the molecules being displaced cause the metal to rise around the stamping. Difficult to see with the naked eye, however inescapable under the close up lense of a good camera.

Thanks Rich, that makes sense to me now. Is the metal hot when they stamp it?
