Colt 1911 Recon?

Hi all,

I new to the forum and I have a Colt 1911 that has "1911 Recon" stamped on the side of it; it also has a "RECON0430" on the side. If anyone has any info on this I would greatly appreciate it.

I've never heard of it... I wonder if it's one of Lew Horton's Custom "runs" of Colts (?)....(a quick look in the BLUE BOOK doesn't show any sign of it in either Horton or Colt).
A call to Colt, as Joni said, would definitely set things straight 1-800-962-COLT.

I'd sure like to see some pics of this one!!!

Thanks for the pics, it must have been a special run for one of the distributors to have that serial number. Colt can tell you which one and when.

That's a neat looking pistol. Looks to me like an Officer's slide on a Commander frame. I'm sure someone will be along to give you a better answer.

I'm no expert by any means but I've drooled on a lot of Colt's over the years and that's a new one on me. I'm always amazed at how many varieties of the 1911 Colt offered over the years and the special or limited run guns are always appealing to me. Looks cool, I'll bet it's a sweet shooter too. Nice find.

1911 Recon, 1 of 1,000 Limited Run in 1997, 45 ACP, 3.5" barrel, Officers barrel and slide on Commander Frame, special serial number range #RECON04xx. i found this on the net. hope it helps

I bought one (No. 173) at a gun show in Arkansas last week and the old man I bought it from said there were 467 make (?). Still haven't found out much about it, but it drew a lot of interest at the gun show in Wichita yesterday.

Looks like a Lew Horton. He likes the Officer slide on a full size frame. Also the rubber finger grips. I would be interesting to hear what Colt says.
