View Full Version : 1911 OACP Springs - Which end???

In field stripping my newly purchased 1911 OACP Enhanced I noticed the Recoil springs were opposite each other.

One end (of each spring) is 'closed' and flat. The other end is 'open and has a tapered edge.

Being use to Sigs I know the 'tighter' end (in this case the 'closed' end) goes on the recoil rod. This gun has the smaller springs 'open' end on the rod (incorrect I believe) and the larger springs 'Closed' end over the rod (correct I believe).

Anyone have a schematic (or knows for sure) the correct orentation???

I put it back together with both springs 'closed' ends over the rod.

Closed end to the end of the recoil spring guide.
Which end! - Hammer end . . . or muzzle end. . . ????? :) :)

Just yanking your chain. I get it. The closed end goes on first. Up against the recoil spring gude, open end in the 'plug'.

Thanks gang. Looking forward to shooting it tomorrow and seeing how accurate and reliable it is compared to my FS 1911.
