Hello all, new here & I'm thinking of a 1911 for CCW duty. I was @ the range yesterday & saw a nice little SA Micro in OD green. Anyone have any info or opinions on this little cannon. My current carrys are a Walther PPK/S "JUNK!" & a Sig/Mauser M2 .45 <---which is a great gun for what I paid just to big & to keep anywhere but in the vehical or house. So, I'm thinking about trading them both for the Micro. I have a H&K USP Tac. for a house/range gun & love it. So, that's the only quality firearm I own for comparabilities sake. I have to say I loved the way it felt (unloaded that is) in my hands. I just wanted some first hand opinions before I buy the pistol.
If this is your first 1911, I wouldn't recommend it. Not because I have something against that particular model, but typically small 1911's tend to recoil more than standard 5" ones. So it might be easier for you to familiarize yourself with the new weapon, if it is less vivid in your hands.
My 2 Eurocents only.

For IWB carry I find that it is just as comfortable if not more so to carry a 4" or 4 1/4" barreled 1911 as it is to carry a 3" model. The 4" barrel is going to deliver more bullet velocity for a given cartridge and it has an inch more sight radius. What can be more challenging to conceal is a larger grip like that found on a full size gov't model or commander.
If this is a concern you my like to consider a Kimber Compact. They make a model with a steel frame and a lighter weight version with an aluminum frame. These Compact have a grip that is a 1/2" shorter than a gov't model just like the Ultra or Micros, but with an inch longer barrel.

thanks for the info gents. They have those Kimbers @ the range as well. I'm gonna hed down & take a closer look tomorrow. I do have a issue NM 1911 I shoot when we (not at all lately) go to DCM matches. I've never taken it apart & cleaned or played with the internals as it's a issue weapon & kept in the armory where the GMs do all the cleaning & inspecting. So, I'm pretty sure I can find my way around the outer works of the pistol. I have to say though I do like the looks of the TRP Operator. I just can't justify a purchase I don't need as I've the USP Tac. already (& no, I can't sell it).

The TRP Operator is a very nice shooting 1911. I think they look cool too and the fact that they are quite unique makes them a nice addition even if one has several 1911s already. With a mounted light it also makes a heck of a home defense pistol.
Although I must say that I personally would find it too heavy for a concealed carry gun.

quite right, I saw speaking in terms of just having a TRP just to have. Which I wish I could justify to myself & the woman. Would be nice as I've an extra Surefire(M105) rail light. I bought it for the USP but it was just to big so I purchased a M2. Maybe someday.

It's really a sweet shooter. The extra weight tames the recoil pulses nicely. It is fit very well and it's quite accurate. If you shoot one you'll want it.
