I just bought a series 80 and i'm having problems finding video online showing complete disassembly. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm a little nervous to go any farther than feild stripping because of the firing pin safety.

Welcome chemo,
I too am a recent buyer of the Colt 80 series. I found this post on our forum, and this should do the trick.

The m1911 tech pages have a ton of great info, be sure to browse around a bit there.

The AGI videos are great to learn detail stripping with, very basic and slow paced, not tons of useless info either. They are like $30 from the website but you can rent them at www.smartflix.com for $10 shipped both ways.
One of the tricks to the small parts of the 80-series safety is using a dot of grease on them to hold them in place upon reassembly.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum!

For the slide, just remove the firing pin stop, press the fp plunger in to release the firing pin, remove plunger and little spring, remove extractor.

For the frame parts, just use a little grease on them to help them stay in place while assembling. There are a few pics around here if you do a search that shows the correct relation of the 2 levers.

I usually have a few toothpics laying around to help position the levers and other parts, and then put the toothpics in the frame pin holes to make sure everything is alligned properly. I then work the trigger to make sure the trigger bow is correctly functioning the two levers. It sounds complicated but it is just 2 additional frame parts. Then, I push the frame pins in while at the same time removing the toothpics.

When putting the slide back on the frame, just make sure the one safety lever is positioned down. ALSO, make sure to function test the gun when you are done.

I avoided the newer colts until just recently because of the "extra parts" but it's not to bad once you get the hang of it. Just a couple extra steps, and some fumbling with small parts. The biggest problem I have is my fat, many times broken fingers. Some one also posted a helpful hint to lay the gun on the right side during assemble so the parts stay in place a little better. Just takes a little practice and some patience.

Yep, lay the gun on its right sight put the levers in place with a touch of grease to keep them stable and put in the ignition components.

The link to freepatriot.com was extremely hellpfull. However, all of the pictures illustrating reassembly of the frame would not load. I think i get it though. Thanks for all the help guys. laying the frame on it's right side was a huge help too.
