I would like yo know the purpose of the little spring in the sear of the Colt Gold Cup 70.
As Bud said it aids in holding the sear into the hammer hooks during recoil which will prevent hammer follow.

If you haven't already found out, the little sear depressor lever and spring can be very tedious to install. Sometimes a cutoff Q-tip stick can aid in keeping the parts in place while the sear pin is being inserted.
Some Goldcup owners have replaced the heavy Goldcup trigger with a lighter weight one from Kings. This eliminates the need for the sear depressor and spring which makes re-assembly easier and faster.
