New Years Eve 2000 I bought a Compensated Combat Commander.
Everything seems to be original, as far as I can tell.
The original Colt box even describes the same.
Question is, is this custom from Colt shop.
I've had a gun shop tell me that this is aftermarket, but why the description on the Colt box?
This was new when bought.
any help?

Colt Custom Shop model in all likelyhood, having the original box is a plus and offers some proof of originality.

Go to the Colt website. There should be a note on the web site telling how to contact the Colt historian. Send the serial number to the historian and (for a fee) you can get a letter describing the pistol as it was when it left the factory. That would settle all speculation.

Current pricing for 'the letter' from Colt is $100, at least it was in Feb' 05
They will give complete list of mods, how many made and date of manufacture.
If you decide to drop the bucks to get the offical info from Colt, save it with the pistol. If you ever decide to sell it (if it has collector value) the letter can enhance the resale value slightly.
