I was out and about yesterday. I had gotten off of work early and had to find something to do with myself for a few hours so i decided to go to my local gun store. What did i happen to find while i was there?

Its a Combat Elite in .38 super. I was unaware that Colt made them in .38 super. Well she came home with me after paying $750.00 for it. I had asked the guy is that your best price? and he looked at me and said "your kidding right?" I shot it earlier today and its pretty accurate 2 1/2 inch group at 15 yards hand held With Remington 130gr MC . This is my first .38 Super.
The only spot i could find on her was the usual take down scratch. But, being SS it should polish out.
Ok now the questions.
What is the best defense round for the .38 Super?
I thought .38 supers came with extended ejectors? This one did not.
is it hard to replace the rear sight hollow roll pin with a solid pin?
Thank you.

Oh that is nice!!!
I am jealous...
Oh for defense ammunition:
Winchester Silver Tips or Corbon is pretty much your choices.
I am reasonably sure none of my supers have extended ejectors, I'll look tomorrow.

Very nice Colt. Congratulations on a great find!
FWIW, I recommend against replacing the rear sight roll pin with a solid pin, as the latter may be more apt to drift out. At least, I have a Series 80 Gold Cup whose original solid pin would not stay put. Colt's service department replaced it with a roll pin.

Very nice Colt and Super .38 to boot. You do not see the Combat Elites in Super very often and you got a great price.
If you use a solid pin on the rear sight get the one from Colt with the slight bend in it, that will help keep it in place.

That's a nice Super 38. I have one just like it. I had to pay a little more for mine. I think you got a pretty good deal. I haven't had any problems with my roll pin coming out. Mine is accurate and 100% reliable. Did you get the box and papers?

Yep box and papers the whole deal.
I have put 100 rounds through it so far and its 100% reliable.
I like it alot.

Yeah... they're sweet shooters aren't they? I was in the market for a CE in 45ACP and couldn't find one that I liked. I ran across the Super and bought it. I'm glad I did. I've since found a pre enhanced in 45 and bought it. It to shoots great and is reliable. It has more slide to frame play but that's OK.

Very nice Colt. I wouldn't worry about the roll pin unless it breaks. As Hunter said, a solid pin needs a slgiht bend in it to keep it from walking out.

I would prefer the one that is least prone to breaking. Which is the best?

Thats what i was wondering. I have heard of the pins breaking on Gold Cups and just wanted my best option.

If you put a Gold Cup in a ransom rest the pin will sheer, they also die of old age and other reasons. Most of mine are still in place but a couple have solid pins. It's not something I worry about very much.
Running hot ammo and/or a weak/worn out recoil spring could also contribute to the pin sheering.

Not half bad looking for a Colt. :lh:
The best self defense ammo will be what comes off your reloading bench. :)
