View Full Version : Slide with Compensator on barrel ?

I bought a "grab box" of stuff from a gun shop that is moving to another location. In it was a slide and comp for a .45 ACP. The slide has these markings:

"COLT MK IV" and under that "Series 80" on one side and

"Combat Commander Model" on the other side.

There is a pretty nice looking adjustable rear sight with "Wichata" on it.

The barrel has "Barsto .45 ACP" on it. I have heard of these barrels. The compensator has one large slot at the end on top and that is it. There is a 2 piece guide rod and a plug and spring. Everything seem to be of very good quality. There is some wear and the slide bluing has some slight pitting in a couple areas.

Obvious question: What do I have? I looked in my old Brownells catalog and found some barrels and compensators but none quite like this. I am sure it is not rare but I am curious. BTW, the compensator looks like it is screwed on the barrel but will not come off. There is a hole for a set screw behind the front sight but no screw. I put some Kroil in the hole and will try to remove the comp tomorrow.

I would like to try the combo on my .45 but I don't know if it is worth the trouble of taking the comp off, re-installing a set-screw, and fitting it to my slide.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. This is my first experience with a compensator, obviously.

****** Sorry to post such a rediculous question on this fine website. I have been doing more research and realize that the slide/comp will not fit my frame. So, this thing does into my junk box. Thanks to all who viewed my question.*****

Sounds like it was set up for a Commander model pistol and should be mated to a Commander frame. The barrel and comp were probably a custom set up as BarSto, to my knowledge, never sold a barrel with a comp already attached.
