View Full Version : C&S Series 80 trigger pull kit - worth it?

I had a bad experience with C&S a few years back - and therefore am attempting to do some investigation prior to spending, so has anyone used their series 80 trigger pull reduction kit? Thoughts? There is a claimed 1lb trigger pull reduction which is pretty tall - but I figured I'd go ahead and look into the thing. It is located here:

https://shop.cylinder-slide.com/ccp51/cgi-bin/cp-app.pl?usr=51F4703979&rnd=1330261&rrc=N&affl=&cip=68.33.5.246&act=&aff=&pg=prod&ref=62&cat=&catstr=

Re. the bad experience - sent a Kimber slide in for a "bomar low mount special" and they mounted the sight all right - but neglected to call me first and let me know that the stock kimber cut was too deep and the bomar would be essentially unsupported except in the dovetail. It looked horrible and should have never left the shop in such condition. A lot of people swear by them which is why I'm willing to give them another stop at my business.

Thanks,

I haven't tried this kit nor do I think I will but it has nothing to do with C&S.
The first thing I would do is to measure the trigger pull and then take all the series 80 parts out of the gun and see what the trigger pull is without all the parts. How much difference? The amount of difference will vary gun to gun. One of mine is about 1.5 pound and a couple other make practically no difference at all.
To me it just isn't worth the expense to get a small amount of possible improvement.
You could polish the sides of the levers to cut down on friction if you think it would help.

Wow! Now there is some good advice! I'm new to the whole series 80 thing, having avoided guns with the design for years. This is likely the only pistol I'll ever own with the system - unless I buy another para :)

So, having said that, thanks for the great suggestion. I'd forgotten that some people remove the parts altogether and that there was even a kit to do that (plug the plunger hole) years ago.

I'll give it a try. $50 for a drop-in 1lb trigger pull reduction is a value in my book, but anything less then 1lb would make it a lot less attractive to me. Weighing the trigger first would be an awesome way to benchmark the 80 parts impact either way.

FWIW, I've noted that the Para parts are already plated and quite slick as it is - which is what also has me wondering about the real change that could be imparted with the kit. I'm guessing the relief in the frame and plunger hole could stand to be polished before the para levers require it.

Thanks again.

Hi

There's a sticky over in the gunsmithing area called "poor man's trigger job". It's got everything you need in it to set up the trigger.

No matter what you do, you are going to need an accurate trigger pull gauge. That can be anything from a milk jug full of water to a Lyman digital pull meter.
