I hope this is the proper forum for this question...

A friend has asked me this and I am drawing a blank. He has a 70 seiries Govt. Model from around 1980 that his dad purchased new and then left to him. It is a factory Matte Silver finish but is not SS. Would this be some sort of hard chrome or something else? He is absolutely sure it has not been modified or refinished in any way. The gun looks absolutely new and I drool every time he brings it out!

TommyC:

It's a satin-nickel finish.

It's a satin-nickel finish.

Thanks! I knew that but due to lack of functioning brain cells I just could not remember!

Colt also made a few Series 70 GM's witha finish they called ColtGaurd it had more of shine to it and more closely resembled hard chrome. Government Models with ColtGuard are rare I believe there were less than 500 produced.
