Hello all,

I'm hoping to get some guidence. I have a Colt - M1991Al - Compcat. It has a two piece recoil spring and a short little stubby guide rod. The spring in it now are quite bent up and mangled (See Attached Pic). I was going to replace them but I'm being told I should get a full length guide rod w/new plug and one recoil spring.

1) Is this ok to do?
2) Will it improve reliability, accuracy or performance?
3) Am I better off replacing it with what here?
4) Does anyone know how it comes from colt? (I think its as pictured)
5) What spring weight for single? what for two?

Thanks,
Milk

That looks like the stock set-up. Some dislike the stock recoil spring plug, and elect to replace it with one that has more surface area than the small tab on the stock part. There are lots of aftermarket recoil systems with full-length guide rods, and single or dual springs, but most require modification of the slide.

Yes, most after-market guide rods which use one single spring use a reverse spring plug, which means you have to machine the slide.
