I don't know if this is the right forum, and I'll move it if it is, anyway this is the problem.

I cleaned my Springer yesterday. I stripped the slide down completely (Bullseye powder) and sprayed the slide with carb cleaner. This is the first time I've done this on the Springer. When I started to re-assemble I saw that the right dot on the sight had begun to run, dissolved by the carb cleaner.

I there a fix I do do for this? The right way as opposed to having white paint all over the back of the slide as would probably happen if I do it without knowing how.

Thanks

Roy

While some folks love to blast their guns with carb cleaner it can do some damage to paint and to the finish on your grips to name a couple of things. I'm assuming that the white dot on your sight went away? Why not get rid of all 3 white dots while you are at it? I can't stand them, personally. A proper sight alignment does not include focusing on the dots. Another thing to keep in mind is that heavy duty solvents remove all traces of lubricant from the metal. Things will begin rusting immediately unless you apply a bath of CLP. I have found that wiping down the parts with CLP works just fine and keeps the metal protected. Give it a try.

Well, you have remove a dot, so you need to fix that, if you want the dots. Get yourself either a bottle of white-out (typist correction fluid) or better yet some Testors enamel paint from a hobby store. Use a toothpick to put a small drop in the cavity where your original dot was. Put another drop in the rest of your white dots so the color is the same. Let it dry and you are all done.

Sights - I'm beginning to see that. I might just use the front dot only.

CLP - I do that Lazarus, execpt I use FP-10, not CLP. I use CLP on my AR15 only.

I use the carb cleaner on the slide becuase of the gunk, especially when I use Bullseye. I then use liberal amounts of FP10. Been doing that for years.

Thanks

You know John, great minds work alike. :D I've been thinking about model airplane paint, but I haven't gotten off square one on that yet. Thanks.

Lazarus mentioned "no dots". I'm thinking about that also. Any pros/cons on white dot vs no dot?
