the first question i have is why are some 1911's have novak dovetail cut on front and a bo-mar cut for the rear sight.. the other question is what other sights can be added or fitted to the rear sight dovetail cut, i understand if the dovetail needs to be opened up or modified, my only proble with bo-mar sights are that you are limited to just a few choices, at least with the other company's you have other options..

Hi

In answer to the first question - because somebody liked that combination. There is no practical reason why one front sight is better than another. It's entirely what you do or don't like.

The Bomar dovetail cut for the front sight is 0.330 wide by 0.070 deep with a 65 degree shoulder.

"Factory" front dovetail is 0.300 wide by 0.085 deep with a 60 degree sholder.

The Novak dovetail cut at the rear is 0.495 wide by 0.125 deep with a 65 degree shoulder.

The Bomar rear cut is 0.359 wide by 0.070 with a 60 degree shoulder.

The problem with rear sights is that some overhang the back of the slide. That means that the location of the dovetail matters as well as it's size.

Simple answer - figure out what you have and shop for sights that fit those dovetails.
