Hi im new to m-1911 my name is Lee McGee i would like to start by saying hello i guess. Im 18 and my dad has recently bought me a 1911 pistol. According to the stuff i got with the 1911 it has the following upgrades installed:
Wilson Combat High Ride Beaver Tail Grip Safety
Wilson Combat Hammer and Sear
Wilson Combat Extended Slide Release Lever.
And one of those wrap round laser grip which is okay but i dont see the need for a laser in the grip any recomendations on some new grips maybe??
I also have a 2 other firearms a battered Colt Agent .38 special which was my first handgun and a Winchester 1300 Defender 12ga in black.
I would post pics but my dads got the key to the gun safe (which is fair) so i cant take any pics. (if thats possible)

Hey Lee, welcome to the forum. I am glad to see that your family practices good gun safety. When the time is right you can post some pics. Thanks.

Welcome to M1911.ORG!
Now, do yourself a favor and loose those stupid laser grips. A set of nice cocobolo ones will be the best. Also, loose the extended slide release, and you will have a nice gun. You didn't tell us though, what gun did you get.

It is a Colt MK IV series 80 Government model its old but nice its black and the slide has a bit of holster wear but im not complaing. The laser grips are so lame the ruin the look to as the laser sticks out a bit. I have two colt 8 rnd mags and a stock 7rnd what are the ten rounds like i heard they can cause proplems??
Also the feal of the gun is so nice i had a few people come up to me at the local pistol range and say they got rid of theres casue of the recoil!! the recoil is good i was shooting the remington golden saber rounds the 230gr. they were nice. Pics will up soon.
I do like the fact that my dad locks the gun safe and he's the only one with a key and keeps one hidden. It keeps my younger bro out (he's 13). We caught him showing his friends my dads SR-15 we had one of those big fancy looking display style gun things which my mum thought looked awful (shes british :D) and it was unsafe. Which was prooved when he was pratting about with a rifle. Thank god that we dont keep 'em loaded and the ammo was in a little safe.
Right enough talking from me what do you guys shoot.

I have never heard of anyone getting rid of a 1911 due to recoil. They really don't have much kick.

Congrats on a nice gun! Take care of it and it will last you a lifetime then some. I agree with the recommendations you have already received, Especially those silly laser grips. Get you a decent pair of wood grips and it will look much better.

Duh, recoil in a 1911? Even in .45 I think they are quite mild.
Congrats on you first toy Sir, enjoy it.
