I have done a search of the subject and did find some information on this subject.
I also found a tool for measuring the tension using a brass gauge and a trigger pull gauge.
Anyone use one of these?

No, but I did cobble up one of my own using a once fired cartridge case, cutting the body of the case off leaving just the base and then drilling out the flash hole.
My 1911 seems to prefer somewhere around 16 oz. of tension

Been using them for years, someone made them years ago.......and I believe the Army or the like had them as well. Can be had from Brownells........I think Weigand makes them now.
They work well..........

10-4.
I found them on Midway's site. Seems like a good idea. Just wanted to see if it was the answer to a question that had not been asked.

I have one and it works fine. I use it with the weigand jig and it makes adjustment fast and easy. Once you get the bending jig set up it only takes one adjustment and you have it. My jig was even set up right for my gun when I got it. :D

Layne Simpson, in his custom 1911 book, measured the tension on his guns, all of which were working 100%, and I think the tensions ran from zero to over two pounds. While I was struggling with extraction/ejection problems (which turned out to not be mechanical in nature), I ran tensions light enough that I was getting about 10% failures to extract, then increased the tension, in steps, until the gun wouldn't feed, and as long as it did actually extract, it ran fine until feeding suffered, which I suspect was some pounds of tension.

Off the top of my head........24-28oz seems to be the sweet spot for most extractors. If they fall within that tension range, I've seen very few cause problems.
