hello friends... Im new to this forum and im glad to be here. I just wanted (if any cares) to explain briefly why i enjoy shooting and believe shooting skills are valuable to many areas of life. First , I'm convinced that learning to shoot by a knowledgable instructor helps the student to become a saftey consious person. There are many elements that contribute to safe gun handling and learning to satisify all of these elements helps to teach the student to be well aware of many factors at once while performing a given task. Shooting can be dangerous, no doubt about it, but learning to be safe in this sport can aid in a person being an overall 'saftey-minded-person' in many areas of life.
Similarly, this sport can help a person to be resposible for their own actions. In order to be safe, it is vital that everyperson handling a gun and near a gun be responsible and thoughtful about what they are doing and what is happening around them. Accidents can quickly and tragically occur if a person fails to take resposiblity for what they are doing during a shooting setion. A good shooter is a resposible shooter and a responsible person.

There are many other "greater lessons" that can be gleaned from this sport; all of which contribute to the reasons why I enjoy shooting so much. Mental patience, skill, cordination, and control are some things that can be learned from shooting and that make for a good shooter.

Finally, I really like shooting because its fun. Its loud, there is fire involved and things get destroyed. I'll never get tired of seeing a watermelon explode into a 25' radius from a high powered rifle. I enjoy the social element of shooting, going out with friends, talking and blasting. Shooting indoors is great practice, but i enjoy most being outside. My shirt off....sunburn on my back.... .45 on my belt ...... brass at my feet. If you dont understand by now, you never will.

Shoot safe

There's something innately satisfying about putting a hole, on demand, in a certain spot at a distance from oneself.

Then there's the enjoyment and appreciation of design and engineering execution in firearms, which many but perhaps not all shooters share.

Anyway, shooting has golf all beat to hell!

Shooting is noisy, dirty, just slightly dangerous and it's also expensive. And you don't need to wear a necktie.

What's not to like?

Hello Evan1293 and welcome to the forum. It pays to keep up one's shooting skills. If you don't practice regularly, your skills will diminish and anything worth doing is worth doing well. Secondly, no matter what kind of day I'm having, after a trip to the range, I always feel less stressed. It's a Zen-like experience for me. That's why I do it so much.Regards

Shooting is fun and relaxing at the same time, buying guns is fun, I never ever wear a neck tie and have been heard saying to others that they may do whatever and say whatever they want, so long as they are willing to accept the consequences of their actions or inactions.

I too find shooting to be relaxing, even though I may be tired afterwards.

And of course it's lots of fun, but the question is, WHY is it fun? Those who don't do it obviously don't find it so.

And you meet lots of interesting people.

Joni, I like that avatar you use - those eyes look sexy and demure at the same time. I might just have to get a set of grips with those on em.

Thanks, if you find grips like that, post a pic for us and let us know where you got them.

Won't someone give credit to the person who got this avatar?????

As for shooting, why it's a great sport? It's not, it's noisy, it makes me drive through traffic to go to the range (and I hate that), it's bloody expensive (1 US$ per 2 rounds) and making holes on paper 25 meters away is as interesting as watching paint dry.

Now playing with guns IS FUN! And shooting at poppers too. Oh and the best part, is how often you can make fun of yourself, when you scr** things up!!!

For whatever its worth... ive only been shooting for about 3 years but ive made a few observations in that time. first ive noticed that people enjoy this sport for very different reasons. some folks are hunters and they shoot to kill game or practice shooting as a means to their end. other folks like the sport because they are married and would rather be doing anything except being at home with the wife. my category would be the type that just really like guns. they like to talk guns, balistics, shooting techniques. they like the enginering of weapons and finding out first hand how well they perform. They then take this affinity for the weapon and figure out just what it can do (weather it be the gun's accuracy on a paper target at various ranges, or its destructive power on a furry varmint). finally there is another type that i like to avoid.. the fringe nut who stock piles weapons for the end of the world.

if i missed any types ild be interested to hear about them...

"my category would be the type that just really like guns. they like to talk guns, balistics, shooting techniques. they like the enginering of weapons and finding out first hand how well they perform."

And being in the company of those that appreciate the same!

I contacted Wod Grip by phone and asked about 1911 grip panels that are square bottomed for a gun with a magwell. They had them and will be sending me a set of uncheckered ones. I'll let you know more when I have seen them.

I just got two sets of smooth, laser engraged with my initials grips from Woodgrips. Great looking!!! Excellent fit. What else can I say, these guys sure make nice grips. And they are very kind guys as well. Being M1911.ORG sponsors for years now! LoL
