I just picked up a new Charles Daly Compact slide, and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a compact frame. I've tried fitting it to a full size frame, but once the slide stop is in place the slide stays out of battery by about 1/8". I appreciate any help on this one.
Thanks
Geoff

I would contact our member "Charles Daly" via PM, who is Michael Kassnar, President of KBI. Frames are considered firearms under federal law and must be transferred through an FFL. Most companies do not sell frames. Or you could buy an 80% frame, from Sarco in NJ and finish it or have it finished. Check the ATF website for Serial # requirements. However a new or used complete Daly gun may be less expensive in the long run.

Rich,
Thank you, I understand all that, I have built several pistols already, just never dealt with a compact. I've had no luck finding a compact frame and was just asking if anyone in this forum knew where one could be found, Sarco, Essex, Numrich, Caspian and the many other online resources don't seem to carry them. If there is no source of compact frames available for the part time builder, perhaps someone knows of a way to adapt the compact slide to the full size frame.
Thank You
Geoff

Two problems here, for anyone interested in following up on it.

(1) The unfinished frames Sarco sells are NOT 80% frames, They are closer to 50% or maybe 60%. And they are mongrels -- the grip length in shorter than a Government model, but longer than an Officers. Standard MSHs, grips, and magazines need not apply.

(2) More important, Rich made mention of "have it finished." NO! The Federal law on 80% frames is clear: you can buy an 80% frame without going through an FFL, but YOU must finish it. ONLY you may perform the remaining machining operations. If you have anyone else do it, even if it's your brother-in-law and you don't pay him a penny, both you and the person doing the work are committing a Federal felony.

And that is exactly why I instructed him to contact the ATF for serial# requirements. ;)

I called Sarco, they have no incomplete frames in stock. They do have complete RIA Parkerized and Essex SS. However, I did see on a previous venture on their web site an 80 % frame that only the rails had to be cut.

Sarco: Voice (908) 647-3800 / Domestic Fax (908) 647-9413 / Int'l Fax (908) 647-3846 / E-mail info@sarcoinc.com

You might try contacting Ivan on the RIA Forum about getting a Rock Island frame. They're the same frame, as far as I know.
