Gentlemen,
I have never owned a gun other that a single shot 20 gaugle that I got as a gift when I was a young boy. I have the oppurtunity to buy a colt .45 from a chap at work. He tells me that it is a bargain price. It is definately a colt make. It is blued and what he says is full size and not a commander? The gun itself looks impecable. He has 8 colt clips for the gun and a case. He is asking $375 for the lot. He said he paid around $700 8 years ago when he got out of the navy. Anyway I would like to purchase this gun. What do I look for? Anything that you think I should make sure of that may make or break this deal? Lastly at that price do you think I would have any trouble getting my money back?

Thanks to all that respond and those that dont.

Welcome to the forum!

The deal sounds really good, you shouldn't have any trouble getting your money back out of it as long as the gun works.

Check out the tech section for the "Buying a used 1911" written by one of our Moderators. That'll walk you thru some things to look for.

If you don't want it, I'll take for that price. That should be a hint!

I cant thank you enough for the warm welcome. I will surely look at the articles you suggested. I will likely get the gun. If not another like it. With that said im sure I will be spending some time here in the forums getting to know the gun. Once again thanks!

Buy the pistol period! Regardless of model: Govt., Cmdr., etc. any Colt 1911 is well worth $375-bucks! You will, however, need to post pic's here on this forum as soon your in permanent posession of the pistol... :D

At $375, it's a steal almost regardless of condition. If you don't want it, buy it and take it to a gun store. They'll give you much more than your initial investment. Or you can keep it and build it up the way you like it, grips, finish, etc and still pay less than what you would in a gun store for the same weapon.

Regards;)

Or you can buy it and send it to me as a gift (OK, first you'll have to send it to some friend of mine in US, to do some custom work on it, but that's not a big issue).

Get it! At that price, it's a bargain. AFTER YOU READ what Wichaka suggested.
