Hope I have posted this in the right place.
I have been curious about the weights of the recoil springs and how my pistols feel during the recoil.
The Nighthawk Website says that a standard recoil spring for their Commander’s is 20# and 22# for a steady diet of hot loads.
The Ed Brown Website says that the standard recoil spring for their Commander is 18# and 20# is their heavy duty spring.
So far I have only been shooting 230gr target ammo through both of them and have purchased some Remington Golden Saber 230gr Hollow Points for a defensive round.
When I first purchase the Talon II (TII), I also purchased a couple of the 20# springs, and got used to the recoil. I then purchased the Special Forces (SF) and the very first thing I noticed was that the recoil was not as sharp as the TII. The SF had a more manageable recoil than the TII. Both of these guns are excellent works of craftsmanship.
My question is in regards to the noticeable difference in recoil, is it due to the different recoil spring weights?
So far I have about 2600 rounds through the TII and about 900 rounds through the SF. They are both sweet shooters and I can shoot better with the SF. I have changed recoil springs at a 1200 round interval and noticed that TII spring shrunk about 3/4 of inch. I have not change the recoil spring to the SF, but I am getting pretty close to having to change it.
By the way, is it better to get the springs from Nighthawk and Ed Brown or from one just one source?
Any help would be appreciated. Oh here is pic also!
