I went down to my local gunshop the other day and was looking at 1911 pistols and saw they had no Colts in stock. I asked if they had any used ones and he pulled up a brushed stainless Combat commander? I am sure it was SS but cold not read the serial # and all I can tell you about he weapon is that it was short triggered, old g.i. sights. serrated mainspring housing, .45 cal and that it was showing some holster wear. The bottom of the mainspring housing was slightly marred like the serrations had gotten banged near the mag well. The gunshop wanted about $599.oo. Anyone have a pic of one close to this description? And is this price in line. I have no pics and should have taken some but was really not expecting to find one. Called the gunshop and the prefix is 70SCXXXXX thanks ;) Floyd

Answered my own question but pics would still be nice. It is 1970/1983 manufacture, in brushed nickel fnish with a steel receiver. About 300.00 to refinish the pistol and check all parts for wear, replace and test fire. And of course then shipping. I wonder if it is worth it?? Floyd

nope.....I assume you meant another 300 over the initial costs, right? .....we love our Colts, but there has to be a limit

I wouldn't think that a satin nickel gun such as you've mentioned would be worth $599, if it required any work.
Here's a similar one on GB that's started at $550:

And brand new 04091U stainless Combat Commanders are going for around $725 - $750 from what I see on the internet. Bud's has one listed on GunBroker for $725 this evening and I bought this one NIB about 18 months ago from a dealer in Nebraska for $695.

Here it is after changing only the grips and grip screws:

This is crazy, I was just signing on to ask opinions on a Combat Commander in hard chrome SN 70SC53xxx that the dealer said he would sale for around $550. The gun has some wear on the finish (it is all but gone on the grip safety), front sight loose, and doesn't have the original grips.
I think I have your answer by reading the previous post.
Vashooter I don't want to highjack your thread but I have two questions:
Could someone provide info on the aforementioned serial number?
What would be a fair price for the gun if I wanted to buy it and get it refinished?

Colt can tell you about all you want to know if you call them about it. Also I think if the finish is that bad I would pass. It will cost around $300 or more for the original finish at colt, plus parts. New Commanders are less after shipping and all is over and done with. Colt 1-800-962-2658 JMO Floyd
