Hi all!
It's time. I've gone through a number of handguns over the last few years, the closest that I have come to the "right" one is a Para LTC (that I sold to get a S&W 66-2, that I sold to get a Python, that I sold to get a USP)
The LTC fit my smallish hands like no other, so I've decided to get back to that platform. Working on a trade for a Mark IV Series 80 Lightweight Commander w/ 50 rnds through it, comes with box and papers.

Can't wait.

Welcome. I think you are going to really enjoy the Commander. What finish is it?

Shivers! You sold a Python to get a USP? You must redeem yourself and definately get that MKIV Commander!!

Can't wait to see the pics!

Actually, I've had two replies to my "for trade" post on another forum-the one I'd mentioned is blued (or whatever finish is applied to the series 80) and the other is stainless, but it's not the lightweight model it's a Combat Commander (series 70 though) unknown round count.

I'm leaning toward the blued lightweight series 80, the only thing I can remember wishing for in the LTC I had was a bit less weight.

Regards,
Cam.

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on the new Colt. I bought my first one a month ago, and have already bought a second. I use several gun forums, but you can't beat this one for 1911's - lots of knowledgeable friendly folks here.

Glad to hear you're choosing a Colt Commander. It's my all-time favorite gun! You just can't get a better 1911 (IMHO ofcourse :) ).
I'd go for the Series 80 LW myself, as i personally prefer blue'd guns, though a pre-series 80 "Combat" is hard to beat too!

Hope to see those pics soon!

Okay, I am the owner of FOUR Colt's 1911 platforms (including First Lady, my USGI M1911 from late 1918 production)... I do have two other brands of 1911 platforms, both of which are totally functional and reliable. But, that said...

My four Colts FEEL different than my Springers or my RIA. That may sound bizarre, but, they do. I have the O1991 in blued (and Colt does a BEAUTIFUL blue finish), an O1911 USGI WWI Repro in Carbona Blue (which I LOVE, and was very FORTUNATE and BLESSED to acquire, thanks to folks here), a Super 38 Government Series 80 in ss, and the mentioned USGI M1911. They're all great guns. When I first got into the platform about four years ago, I ddin't think I could afford Colts. I lucked out on First Lady; the other three, well, obviously in some way I managed to get.

There is something about Colt., especially if you love the 1911 platform as I do and we all do here. They were the orginal mfgr of the M1911. I've never owned one of their revolvers; mine have been S&W and Rugers. But, I am so thankful to have my Colt 1911s: even First Lady--although she'll not ever be shot much, if ever again--functions FLAWLESSLY. So do my three new ones.

I LOVE 1911s. LOVE them. John Moses Browning got it right in 1910. And 1911. Having had Berettas and Rugers and Tauruses, all good pistols (still have my Ruger and Taurus), the 1911 WORKS. And Colts was the ORIGINAL manufacturer.

Y'all take care.
Mick

Welcome to the forum and I'm sure your new Colt will be just what you want. I'm sure in a couple of years, you're going to be sorry you parted with that Python, the prices of those are getting very high.

I know...but you know how the stuff you've already own doesn't appeal to you quite as much as the new one youve covinced yourself you need...

I can't be the only one that happens to? :p
