My Gunsite CCO arrived on Wed. Of course, I had to sneak away from work on "Personal Business" to go pick it up. Due to weather I had to wait until today to shoot it.

I fired 250 rounds today without a single malfunction. Shot some Rem 230 gr.H.P. UMC, Win.Ranger 230 gr.SXT, Hornady 200 gr.XTP and a lot of my 230 gr. Rainer FMJ reloads.

The CCO came with two 6 round mags. Both have the COLT pony on them. One is a Checkmate mag and one is a Metalform. Both have the flat follower with a dimple and both functioned perfectly, although the checkmate mag has a lot stiffer spring than the metalform mag. I also used some Wilson 7 round mags which ran well, too.

I shot targets first. This pistol is very accurate for a commander length bbl. It is not a target pistol but it will do quite well for a carry pistol. I finished up my shooting by practicing my draw on IDPA targets. I could easily keep my shots in the 8 ring and head shots were not too difficult either.

Fit and finish are excellent. The only thing I might do is install a front nite site and possibly fit a tighter bbl. bushing.

Thanks to Clughog for obtaining this CCO for me, and thanks also to Elijdub for giving me some leads on CCO's. Without their help my search would have taken a lot longer I'm sure. :D

Here are a couple of pics.

It definitely is a beauty! Interesting about the mags...I guess Colt just has a bunch of them and throws 'em in the box indiscriminately when they ship them. Could be that the "extra" mag is even put in the box at a different point than the one in the pistol.

I think it might be time for my 5th Colt, a Gunsite CCO. I have been looking on GunsAmerica and Gunbroker with no luck. Any suggestions on tracking one down? :D

73Driver....There is a gun show here in Dallas today at Big Town. I was there yesterday and B&B guns has had one for several months. I think that it is new and not cheap as his high priced guns are new and with boxes. His name is Lee Bassinger and you can reach him at 817-291-7239 as that is his cell phone and he will be at the show today by 9am. He has a website...www.classiccoltfirearms.com. His classic collection is really quite nice and I could spend a small fortune with what he has.

I've been thinking that i really need another Gunsite except full size and in blue. Colt of course. They're a nicely set up pistol.

Albert, He does have an incredible array of NIB Colt's! I must say though, his prices are kinda' high and i got a kick out of the fact that he's advertising many of his current production guns (for ex: NRM Commanders) as "Rare and Beautiful" ;). ..Beautiful, yes...rare, not remotely!

Do you remember what he was listing his CCO for?

If you click on the picture of the Colt Gunsite there, it doesn't list the CCO as available. Just the two full-size models.

The best place, IMO, to find a Gunsight CCO is by checkng with fellow forum member Clughog (Creighton). He's a good guy, an FFL, and i believe has at least one GS CCO left (and access to others, maybe..).
I believe he posted earlier in this very thread, and was responsible for acquiring the CCO this thread is based on ;).

Seriously, how many NIB Colt Gunsite CCOs do you think remain out there? I'm betting less than 10, and they're all sitting in gunshops with no internet advertising presence. Maybe even in back, not in the case out front. Such a shame, I love these pistols!

BTW, does anyone know how many of each model of Colt Gunsite Pistol were made? The highest serial number of my three is in the mid 700s.

Elijdub.....I think was asking around $1500.00 He had a new Gold Cup Commander for $2100.00. I just got back from the show and the Gold Cup was sold late yesterday but he had the CCO's. I believe he had a blue "Gunsite" model and he had a Lightweight model that just had "CCO" on one side and no Gunsite on the other. I'm going to the hospital in the morning for a Coltarectamy before I go nuts.

:D

Albert, That's actually not too bad of a price for a Gunsight CCO, NIB. If i ran across that at a gun show, and had the money, i'd probably go home with it ;).
Sounds like a whole mess of nice Colts!

Colt made a "plain" CCO model as well (the other Lightweight you saw). The info i have says they were made in 1998 only, weighed 26 oz.'s, with a last MSRP of $813. ...Another very nice Colt, IMO.

I don't know what kind of gun shows y'all go to, but the one's we have here in NM stink ;)! I'm moving to TX :D!

The big one is in Houston next weekend. Lee, who has all the Colts told me they would be there. He mentioned that it is the largest show every year and I thought the ones they have at Market Hall here in Dallas were big. Southwest Airlines can getcha there cheap!

Grainfed, forget the hospital, it won't help. Spend more time at the range with the ones (guns) you love and you'll spend a little less money on buying more guns. (but more on ammo or components) :D

Ya $1500. is great for a Colt "Gunsite' CCO. The other normal CCO is more common and does not have all the extra parts the Gunsite has.

Gunsite features:

Series 70 firing system
Smith & Alexander metal grip safety with palm swell
McCormick hammer and sear
Serrated flat mainspring housing
Dehorned all around
Thin rosewood grips
Gold Cup serrations on front strap
Heinie front and Novak rear sights
Short aluminum trigger with 4 – 4½ lb pull
Wilson extended safety lock
$100 coupon towards training at Gunsite
Two 7-round Wilson magazines w/metal base plate that says colt.

I traded a $2400 Wilson for mine.
....and if I find them at $1500 at the gun show next weekend, I will buy as many as they have.

AlbertAlbert, Eli, as of this morning, Classic Colt had raised the price on their one remaining Gunsite CCO to $1,795. And that's the ONLY one that I know of NIB at any price! Maybe some will start showing up,though.

Dog....I looked at so many of his Colts I'm still dizzy but I do think that it was $1500. If not I do apologize for the oversight. There's so many ponies in my head--I'm dazed and confused. Are you going next weekend to the show? Look up the big blue COLT sign and have fun. The owner is Lee Bassinger and check out Rogers Defender that Ken Crawley did for him.

Thanks for keeping us posted Creighton! ..Sounds like they know what they're holding onto (gold). A few hundred bucks higher than they were... But i don't think that price is too bad based on what you're getting (personal opinion).

Thanks for all the kind replies on the CCO. I have to agree with dogdollar. I will buy another one if and when I find one. They are the perfect carry pistol, for me. I knew as soon as I picked it up, it would be my primary carry weapon.
