I have been interested in using Shok-buffs as well. I hope someone provides some insight on how well they work and how to install them?

You won't get a really straight answer on this. Some people love them, and others will try to make you feel stupid for using them. Check out the thread entitled "Why Shok Buff?" on the next page, and decide for yourself.

Oh..
You will certainly get a straight answer; at least from me. Forget them! Discard them! Remove them. File them under, "Completely Useless!"
Why do you need something in your gun, which has no additive effect and that can come apart without notice and cause a stoppage?

You can certainly give your opinion, but that does not make it the definitive answer on the subject. There isn't one, which is why I directed him four page thread we just had on Shok Buffs.

OK, you win.
Read four pages, then take the shok buff out of your gun.
This is well-covered ground. And, it has most certainly been plowed. ;)

Shock-buffs and FLGRs both benefit from a thorough soaking in WD-40!

Ping Ping has it correct.....mostly. They can come apart without notice and cause stoppages, but that's because the owner of the gun has failed to maintain them properly.
If you're going to use them, make sure they are inspected like every other part o the gun when cleaning. If they get cracks, replace them.
I've never seen one come apart just out of no where, they came apart because they were wore out.
I clean my guns after every shooting session, so it's never been a problem for me. If you go several thousand rounds between inspections, then i wouldn't use them.
With them installed, you may not be able to "sling shot" your slide. But I don't sling shot mine, so it's not a big deal to me.

I wouldn't say without notice, since it is pretty easy to diagnose wear on them. But yes, if you do not like to maintain your firearms then Shok-Buffs are not for you. As I stated in the last thread, there are some guys out there that build high mileage 1911s for those going into harms way that see fit to include Buffs in their pistols.
For all of the nay-sayers in these threads I still haven't heard anyone say that they have personally had a weapon fail because it had a shok-buff in it. It's always "I heard" or "this one guy".
If you want to use them, then test and maintain them. If you don't want to use them then that's fine too. It's really not the life changing decision that some make it out to be.
