when it was made.. S/N# 71B0899.... can anyone

None of my books have anything past 1978.

thanks.. I tried the site though and couldn't find a listing..
found a couple of other websites with Colt s/n's but only
for the much older models.. neither I nor my gunsmith could
see any evidence of this gun ever being fired... I know I
should put it in the safe - keeping it in the conditiion it
is in.... but, I like to shoot my firearms... so, it's going to
at least see some rounds through it...

YOu can try and call them. Since it fairly current and if all you want is the DOM, then they may give it to you over the phone.
usually they want $$$ to do a historical check.
I feel the same as you do about not shooting a gun i have. I will usually shoot it unless i have another one like it. to me guns were made to be shot not ogled.

retiredchief, your pistol is one of the re-issued Series 70's. I can't help you a lot with the DOM except to say that I own one (SN 71B04xx) that I bought new sometime between Jan and June, 2003...I have the receipt somewhere but I'm unable to lay my hands on it at the moment...I'm hatin' this getting old. I'm pretty sure your pistol was manufactured sometime afterwards. Anyway, yours should look something like this, except for the grips, which I changed. And btw, $580 is a very good deal indeed.
