I almost traded in the Officers model I just bought for an HK P200SK in .40.
When I layed out the Officers model to be evaluated for trade I noticed that the little Colt was thinner than the Ubber pistol. I then picked each up in my hand and while the Colt was heavier it wasn't by much. Next I thumbed the mag release on the Colt..fell free. Next the HK...cant do it. the great release on the trigger guard can not be pressed with my longer fingers without releasing my grip on said Ubber pistol.

What was I thinking I almost traded a great Colt pistol thats out of production for a hunk of ugly, bulky plastic. :butthead:

The counter guy said that the HK would last longer than my Colt. :lm:

on the other hand. Wow :scared: there is no other place I know of that has so many Colts. Rare, common, custom, and engraved.

Yes, I know that their prices are a little....optimistic but, you cant beat the selection.

They were going to give me $50 more than what I paid for the Officers model.

I think I will keep it and after a little work will carry it with me until something better comes along. Like a deathray attached to my key ring.

Yea I imagine he was willing to say whatever to get you to trade in that pistol.
I used to shoot at an indoor range when the weather was bad and my primary range pistol then was a mildly custom Series 70 Gold Cup National Match.
You would not believe how many times I was offered store credit for a Glock, a much more reliable pistol (according to the all knowing counter man).
Needless to say when I got done smiling at him he knew that dog was not going to hunt.
I think you made a wise choice hanging onto the Colt.

Pistols that never get shot will last longer than a Colt that gets carried and shot regularly. When I see a 1903 Glock, I'll know that they last a long time. :D

(Though, as close as i live, it sure would be cool to see all those Colt's in one place! You wouldn't believe what passes for a gun shop in NM.)

That was the first thing i noticed (after the initial shock of seeing all those Colts in one place ;))....the high prices. Maybe they do a lot of negotiating during FTF purchases...(?).
Looks like Disneyland, nonetheless :).

Yep they do a little negotiating but not enough to make it worth buying most pistols from them.

I like to buy local but not when the prices are that far off from online shopping. I tried buying a Wilson Combat Sentinel that was about eight years old with worn finish. They were asking $1995.00 about fourteen months ago.
I didn't see the value when new is only a few hundred more. As I was walking out the sales guy said he might cut me a price break. You cant blame them for tyring to make money. They still have that one.

The area of town that the are located in is upscale, very very upscale. They don't need to sell to the little guy when plastic surgeons and oil company executives will pay whatever they want for the over priced plastic pistols or Colts.

That being said you will not find a better selection for anything 1911. I have seen the good deal. There is a nice Delta Elite in blue for under a grand.

Oh... and remember that they gave me $500.00 in trade for my SS Officers model. That is $50 more than I had in it, that include the shipping, transfer fee, and cleaning odds and ins I used to rescue it.

I bought a used Les Baer Premier 2 in Super 38 from them. They knocked of $150.00 from the asking price. This brought the price down to what I considered a good price. It was advertised as excellent conditon with no box and only one mag. The others I asked about, they would come down $100.00, but the retail prices were way too high for that to make it a good price.

They had 1 new one and 2 used ones in stock. After talking with the salesman for a while about the 2 used ones the one I purchased appeared unfired and there were no indications that it had been fired much if any.

I have looked at a lot of Colts on their website and have not seen any that I would consider a good buy , if they only come down $100.00.

I like to buy local too, and try very hard to do so, but my local shops just can't compete with online sales...not even Sportsmans Wharehouse (with whom i'd rather not do business at all, due to their nationwide policy on Colts).
I'm not surprised in the least that they still have that WC sitting on the shelf, for that price ;)!

Just like everything else, if they can sell for that price, they will...
That Delta sounds like it's priced "in line" though...

That's a great trade-in value, IMHO!

I agree Steve. After a purusal of their site, i don't know if there is a single Auto-pistol that i'd purchase for 100$ under their current price.

Still, it sure it cool to see all those Colt's in one place ;).

They WILL negotiate a cash price...I have gotten from 8 to 14%.
If it's a "Holy Grail" gun, though...forget it.

I bought a Colt 9mm conversion from them a few months ago. I finally shot it the other day and it worked judt fine. It did seem to be a bit on the high side as far as price is concerned, but it was what I wanted, so I bought it.

Say, Elijdub, what is Sportsman's Warehouse's nationwide policy on Colts? Forewarned is forearmed, they say, and I simply do not know about this. Mind taking a moment to tell us? Thanks.

Taku,
From what i've read here on the forum, and what i've been told by employees (in the firearms dept.) of Sportman's Wharehouse, they do not carry Colt fireamrs. The reason, as i understand it, is that Colt does not offer "dealer incentives" like the "other" large companies. This may work against Colt in this particular area (as they lose market share, possibly), but gains them favor from the "little guy" who can buy their guns at the very same price as everybody else.
Now, i'd like to add a disclaimer: I am not in "gun sales" or any other aspect of "the industry". This info is based, solely, on what i've read here and been told...(from reputable sources, IMO). If anyone has any info to the contrary please let me know.
I can say, from experience, that none of the SW's in New Mexico carry Colt's, nor do the SW's in Minnesota.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Elijdub, I appreciate your post. I feel your response is authoritative, and I am glad to know it. I am glad to know just why Sportsman's Warehouse has this policy. It seems it's not some draconian anti-gun motive, rather, just a business decision. I would conclude the same as you. Puts the small mom-and-pop stores on the same footing as the big box mega stores. Thanks again. Taku

No problem Taku, my pleasure. Though please do some research of your own before relying on what i've come to understand. I am 99% certain that this is the correct infomation...i just don't want to be providing any misinformation... especially with SO much of it on the net these days.
Anyhow, glad i could help!
Ya know, on second thought, i think i may do some "digging" of my own.... I'll post back if i find out anything new. The only thing i'm not absolutely positive of is that it's a "nationwide policy" (though i can't imagine that a large corporate enterprise such as themselves has anything other than nationwide policy). It most defintely IS their policy in New Mexico and another State (where i have a friend who'd been told the same thing from SW staff). As i said earlier, i have read this information (more than once) on the forum that is IS their nationwide policy on Colt's. I just want to be sure before i lay this out as "the way it is" ;).
