I'm having a hard time finding just the right grips for a stainless Colt. I love exotic wood grips, but most of them that I have seen look awesome on blued guns, and less so on a stainless model. I ordered some VZ Grips in blasted black micarta, but the jury is still out on whether I will keep them or not.

Does anyone with a stainless gun have grips that go really well with the stainless finish?

Call me crazy, but I like the look of plain black checkered rubber grips, like the stock Kimber grips.

I've already got the wrap-around black rubber grips that came on the gun (Cold Gold Cup Trophy), but think they're boring......

My stainless Colt wears some really handsome, burgundy-colored grips from, I believe, Hogue. There's not a hint of brown to the color, they're a very deep, purplish red. I think they look fantastic, but beauty is in the eye. On my hard-chromed gun, I just switched from checkered "ivory micarta", which looked great, to smooth ebony, which also looks great. I guess I like things a bit more extreme on my "silver" guns, while my blued ones mostly wear "brown" wood.

My stainless SA Loaded came with Cocobolo grips, which looked good, but felt unnatural in my hands. Soon replaced them with Hogue's rubber palm swells, which look OK, but feel great. Eventually, I want to put on Hogue's smooth, ebony palm swells, which look and feel great.

I like the look of lighter colored grips on lighter colored guns. Frank, for example, has some ivory and stag grips that look great on one his two toned Baers. If we're lucky, he'll grace us with a pic.

Here is a picture of mine with a simple checkered double diamond grip. I have them in stock if you like them. Nothing fancy just a simple classic look!!! :) :)

I'm with Ping Ping. The lighter the finish of the gun, the lighter the grip. I think stag or checkered ivory give a stainless, nickel, or hard chrome a certain "Roaring '20s" look.

My DW pointman 7 came with Checkered cocobolo grips.
They looked nice but I just replaced them with cocbolo 1/2 stippled grips.
They are half checkered and half smooth. they look great on the stainless.

Cocobolo looks really good on most 1911's. The half n half look is pretty neat.

I'm picking up what AutoMag is throwing down. Simple yet elegant. The contrast is nice, like tinted windows on a silver Mercedes-Benz.

I'm quite the opposite of the general consensus. I think dark grips go well with a stainless gun. I'd go with a blackwood or ebony grips. Maybe kingwood, but that isn't always dark enough for my taste.

gungripguys.com has a lot of pictures of different wood grips on stainless and blued guns. Might check there for how they look. I've never done business with that site, so I can't recommend them personally, just the pictures.
