I am trying to decide, I sent off my CCO to Harrison custom and need something done to the front strap and MSH, I am debating 30 LPI checkering or the scallops, I haven't held a pistol with the scallops, but I really like the way they look. This is going to be my EDC piece. I carry IWB in a VMII. John was saying the scallops are a little less apt to snag? What do you think?

I'm not sure what scallops are. Well unless your talking about seafood. :D

I doubt if 30lpi checkering would have snag problems. That is the route I would take at this point because I have no idea what scalloping is. Stippling is neat and effective though.

Are scallops similar to the golf ball treatment? Sounds like it would be similar.

John has a picture on his web site, but yes, similar to golf ball treatment but oblong. Like Ed Browns "chain link" I believe he calls it.

Oh found it. That is what STI calls stippling. I wish those guys would all call it the same thing. The don't seem to have a problem agreeing on the phrase "checkering".

Anyway back to the original question. I like 30lpi checkering better. It is easier on the hand.

I would go with the checkering. Checkering seems like it would provide a better grip overall. I agree the scallops sure look nice though. : -)

I think of some of these as a fad which will pass leaving the owner of the gun with a sort of an odd ball. I prefer checkered, serrated or plain. Not that there is anything wrong wth the other treatments but the golf ball, chain link and etc is something I'll pass on for now.

I don't think much of the various scallops, leaf, chain, or whatever patterns on any firearm. I know they're popular for some buyers and maybe there's a small advantage to them over sharp checkering, but to me they look gimmicky.

It's gonna' be your gun, but hey..... you asked.

Thanks for the replies, thats what I was looking for. I was wondering if anyone has them and what they thought of the scallop, chain link, golf ball, stippling what have you.
