I gotta share this with you folks. Yesterday, I strapped on my Colt 1911A1 (1943) and went to visit a friend who is also a collector. ( I frequently carry this gun, or a Rem Rand, or a P-38 just for the heck of it). He wanted to visit a friend of his I never met. So we go to this obscure house in the woods, and the friend asks us if we want to go for a ride. We said sure, so we walk over to a pole barn, and my eyes bug out when the doors swing open and I see a WWII German Herster (?) tank destroyer in nearly perfect condition sitting inside. It has working guns on it too, a cannon of some type, and a MG34. He cranks up the old diesel motor, and we climb aboard. I sit in the tank commanders spot, and we cruise thru the local woods for a half hour.
Wearing a USGI .45 while riding in a WWII armoured vehicle.....it don't get much better than that. Needless to say I am still floored. My father spent several years in the Greek Army fighting the Nazis on his home soil, I wonder what he would have thought. There were about 20 other vehicles in there too.
Some days, you just never know what you're going to wind up doing before the sun goes down. Whew!!!
