I've got a Colt "Special Combat 45" in my collection...serial number "COMBAT XXX". I've not seen one before. It is a Series 80, blued, fixed 3-dot sights, 5" barrel, Commander Hammer, Colt seal on wraparound grips...(see picture, top). Where can I dig up info on this weapon? Anyone have one?

DR505, welcome to the forum. You could call Colt and they'll give you basic information like when it was made. Or, there are a few members here that will be able to tell you most things you'd like to know about your pistol.

Uncle Dave is right on, call Colt at 1 800 962 Colt with the serial number and they can help you.
Nice pistol and welcome to the forum.

Very nice guns. Do those older guns just have more personality than the new ones, or is it just me?

There are hundreds of limited runs from Colt over the years, I guess this one fits that bill. Real nice!
There is one on GunBroker for 1200 bucks.

No, it is me as well. I mostly buy out of production Colts.

Welcome to the forum. I really like your Special Combat Carry. I like the different roll markings on it. It reminds me of a 1930's era roll marking.

Thanks for the warm welcome. The Gunbroker site is auctioning the pistol with serial 3xx for $1,200.00, NIB. Mine has had about 250 rounds through it, serial is 0XX. I can't imagine it would fetch $1,200.00 even NIB.

Nice pistol. Unfortunately alot of the pistols for sale on gunbroker are over priced and don't take into effect regional differences in prices.

I picked up a Special Combat 45 last October. Nice gun. Colt told me that they were made in the late 1980's. They came with a lowered and flaired ejection port, round hole Commander hammer and necessary grip safety (not the duckbill), serrated front strap, a long smooth-faced trigger, and a bevelled magazine well.
They came in a black plastic case, the same as some (all?) of the Combat Elites came in. I need the case, if anyone has one or knows who supplied them. The gunbroker link by paul45 shows the case. Thanks.

Good luck on the black case. You will have to find one specific to your series of pistols though as they have a silver sticker on the top that corresponds to the pistol.

Neither my Combat Elite nor the Special Combat came in plastic boxes. I have the original packaging for both and they were the red colored cardboard Colt box. I picked up my Combat Elite in 1987 and the Special Combat in 1992 or so.

Like this Combat Elite, labeled Special Edition. In addition, some special runs came in cordura soft sided carrying cases, the NCO and Elite Team come to mind. First editions could come in aluminum cases.
