New to auto pistols, whats involved in changing the safety on a 1911 New Agent to something a little wider. Which aftermarket safety is recommended?

Phil, are you talking about the thumb safety? If so, there's almost nothing to it! You can take a look on Brownell's web site and see pictures of some of the options. There are some good links to the disassembly of a 1911 if you go to the top of the page and select The M1911 Pistols Organization tab. When you get to the home page, there are multiple selections on the left hand side of the page, among them is on called "Disassembly" and another is "Technical Issues." http://www.m1911.org/full_technic.htm

Clughog, yes, the thumb safety, thanks, I'll check it out. Great forum, been mostly a wheel gun guy for the last 40 years, carried a 1911 in the Army from 1961 to 1964, MP K9. Pistol was a rattle trap but never failed to go bang. Wanted something to carry daily now that I am retiring. When i read Hunters review of the New Agent, I checked it out and bought it the same day, put 150 rounds thru it so far no problems. Just want to swap out the safety and maybe also an extended mag release button.Thats it. Thanks again.

Phil, I sure like my New Agent! I'm thinking about putting a different grip safety on it...that's the only "flaw" I see in it--I just can't quite warm up to the appearance of the stock one. And it does tend to dig into my hand after a box or so of ammo. Nothing I couldn't live with, but it might be fun just to see what it feels like with a different grip safety.

Clughog, I have no problem with the grip safety, just want a little more purchase on the thumb safety. I ordered a couple of Wilson mags yesterday, 7 round with the bumper pads, should get the rest of my pinkie on the grip. I have shot around 150 rounds thru it and find it to be very easy on my hand. I need to work with the trench sight, I keep everything on center mass at 7 yds but the group is low and about 6 ". With my sons Kimber with sights, I can keep everything inside 3" rapid fire. Will just take some time. Hunter had a suggestion on sight picture that should bring my point of aim up. I am 66 years old so the eyes ain't what they used to be. Love the pistol, sure carries better than the 357 Colt King cobra I use to carry.
