Got this combat commander and was wondering if this combination would be custom or did they come this way.http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj238/reload_09/IMG_0550.jpg[

Only my guess, custom. I have never seen that combo from the factory.

Looking at it carefully the frame seems to be from a full size model. What are the markings on the frame? Is it marked Colt?

Still debating on what to do with this pistol.I thought about cutting the frame down but I can't bring myself to cut a colt frame. Can ya'll make a recommendation for aftermarket commander frames?Has anyone heard of RemSport?

In '98 only, Colt did make a Combat Commander with a blue slide and stainless reciever.

Sadly, yours is not one of them as you have a stainless slide on a blue Gov't frame.

I thought about cutting the slide down but I can't bring myself to cut a colt slide.

I am not sure why you would "cut the slide down"? Did you mean the frame? I believe there are internal demensional differences as well between the Commander and Gov't frames. You might need to research that fact some.

Lots of good choices out there for Commander frames, reload. I like the Caspian frames, personally, and they make them in stainless if you want to keep the look you have now (and don't want to have to "finish" it). I agree that I wouldn't cut the Colt frame. You can always put another slide on it, sell it, or just leave it set up like it is!

I would call Special Armament Warehouse or check out their web site for Colt full size slides and start with the full size model. Then give it some time to carefully analyze options for the Commander.

Nice and interesting Colt Reload.
I'm curious if you've determined exactly what model Colt this is? I've never seen one like it. Have you called Colt?

I'd just like to add that i wouldn't cut the frame either; as said earlier, you can always buy another frame to mate with the slide if that's your overall goal. Are you interested in having a smaller-framed gun for carry?

Its just a combat commander slide on a full size frame.I was'nt paying close enough attention at the gun show or I might of passed on this gun.I was looking for a combat commander to carry as soon as I renew my permit.I will contact colt and find out what the government frame started life as and try to get a slide to match.

Out of curiousity, what is the serial number? Folks on this forum might be able to ID the frame easily......

What are you trying to achieve by using a Colt Commander frame with a 5" Slide? Why is a shorter dust cover desireable?

The slide is a combat commander slide which is 4.25" I believe.I don't like the way it looks and am trying to correct a mistake that I made.

Caspian makes good frames. I just scanned proofhouse.com and didn't notice that prefix, a call to Colt may be in order (1-800-962-COLT I think). I wonder if this could have been sold as a naked frame which was finished off?

To illustrate, below is a Gov (o.k. Gold Cup but full size frame and slide), Commander, and Defender.
