Up to what year of manufacture or serial number? I tried to find this here and on the web but the best I could find was up to C130000 which can't be right as this would only be guns in the 1920s or older. Also, it was mentioned in a post as the rule is 50 years or older but where does it say that officially? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

John

BATF website has C&R info. I believe that the 50 + age is correct: I have recently purchased two 57 year old pistols here in California (neither of which are on the approved list but both of which passed through the systm OK).

Additionally, I believe certain "special issue" Colts are on the C&R list, as well as things like the "BB" pistols and the anomolous mismarked government slide that says commander on one side.

I'm neither an expert nor a lawyer, so remember free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it. Nevertheless, I believe the above is fairly accurate.

I found my guide "Firearms Curios and Relics List" from BAFTE. It's now my understanding that "the list" isn't all-conclusive. It states on page 2 under the heading "What Are Curios and Relics" that in order to be recognized as C&R, a firearms has to be in one of three categories as specified in the regulations. The first category is "Firearms which were manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof." So if it's over 50 years old it is a C&R gun.

I appreciate the reply.
