I finally picked up an XSE in a Lightweight Commander. It is not as light as I thought it might be, especially after loaded. I hope to take it to the range in the AM.

I have the Colt Commander XSE model and love it. Carlson 1 is correct the S&W 1911 SC/PD is much lighter and percieved recoil on it is not much different than other full sized models.

Congrats Carlson. I used to have a Lightweight XSE. Recoil wasn't too bad. A full size Smith Scandium PD is on my short list. Please let me know how the XSE feels compared to the Smith after you shoot it.

It is an Ed Brown. I am not the original owner, but I am glad they changed the Beavertail. I am in the process of getting a magwell to match :)

Picked up a XSE last month that was customized with a Kart and some other goodies. It is as accurate as I can be and that may not be so great but I love it. I am looking now for a Commander.....Enjoy

Great photograph, carlson1, and congratulations on a really nice XSE! I've got the all stainless Combat Commander and it's really heavy in comparison to your lightweight--you'll have to try it out sometime!

Another one who thinks this beautiful Commander is his.

Little he knows, that he is just safe-keeping it for me.

Sorry for the Camera and picture, but you can see the difference. Changed out the Thumb Safety, Grips, and put on a Smith Alexander Magwell. This was the only Magwell I found that was ONE piece.

I have had my LtWt XSE commander less than a month and it has become my main carry pistol. It really is much lighter than a full size model and the accuracy is great.
Great pictures by the way, you have a knack for picture taking. Now all you need is a stainless slide stop to match the beaver tail, safety and mag well. :D

He's already got a stainless slidestop. Just needs to be buffed to make it match the other shiny parts. White buffing compound for stainless - make it look like chrome......:)

Thanks guys for giving me something else to do :) I will do that right away. Does anyone know if you could buff the frame being it is aluminum?

It can be buffed to look like a Coors can but that would ruin the anodizing and weaken the pistol. Takes away the hardness. I thought Colt used a teflon coating as well on the lightweight frames.

Anyone else please chime in because I am not sure what Colt does with their frames.

Aluminum frames can be buffed but you must take into account they are a much softer metal. This will remove the Teflon coating that Colt puts on them however and that could cause some corrosion issues. If you decide to buff it take your time aluminum requires a little more attention than steel. :D

Sounds like something I probably should leave alone.

I have a question. Do all the XSE's have ambi safteys? Or is it just the XS that has the single side saftey?

dakota1911

I have seen XSE Govs without them (ambi safeties). My XSE Commander has them.

The recent XSE models I've seen, blue and stainless, all had the ambi safety.

carlson1

I have only seen them with ambi safety. The safety on this one was messed with. When I took possession I noticed the safety was real "mushy" feeling. I like the definite CLICK. I also like the wide pedal from Wilson.

Both my SS Combat Commander and my Government Blued XSE have the ambi safety. Sorry I haven't posted pictures of the Government model yet clughog.

Very nice! I especially like the "additions" you have made to the gun. I have a blued XSE Gov't model that started it all. It was my first Colt!

OT, but does anyone know when was the first year for the "XSE" ?

carlson1,

I have been looking for a set of grips for a new Blued Colt Government XSE, I think this might be the grips in your picture. Sam

Very nice carlson1. I will be taking possession of a standard Gov't SS XSE in just under two weeks. I'm excited!

I'm going to see how I like the "duckbill" safety but I'm guessing I'll want to swap it out for a Brown. Not sure I'm skilled enough to pull off the fitting though.
