Hello,
I am going to send off my Colt CCO to John Harrison to be fixed, it is not running right. I also need some things done to it to make it a better carry piece, then have it refinished. I am thinking of replacing the MSH with a bobtailed one that would be serrated to match the front? I was thinking this would add to concealability and comfort for carry? What do you think? Is this a good modification? If you had it done would you do it again?

Thanks for the help,
Ryan

I haven't seen or heard of a bobtail being done on an Officers size frame. Usually bobtails are done on Commanders or full sized frames. I could be wrong and often am. Someone more knowledgeble chime in here! :D

I don't see the need, nor do I see much benefit in bobtailing an Officers short grip. However it's your gun and your money. And you should do what pleases you.

I was looking at Ed Browns site and notice he only sells bobtail MSHs for full size frames only.

I also don't see the need to bobtail an Officers frame.

I would be interested to hear what you find out though!

I agree with the above posts. I've never seen a Bobtailed officer-sized frame. I carry a Colt OACP and am able to conceal the frame ("grip") quite easily (thanks Jeff ;)!). In my case, i wouldn't gain any more "concealability" from bobtailing the frame on this model. Most importantly though, as others have said, i don't think EB makes a "compact" sized Bobtailed MSH. Maybe you could get someone to customize one for you....
..Hope to see some pics of the gun after it's worked on! Harrison is a gifted craftsman!

Don't be so hard on yourself, 2033 posts with only one mistake is not so bad.
Alright, so the one mistake ran for 2000 straight posts, however the past 33 were flawless. :) :p :)

Officer's size frames cannot be bobtailed.

When a full size frame is bobtailed an Officer's size main spring housing is utilized. If you try to bobtail an officer's size frame there is no smaller main spring housing that can be used.

Okay, thanks for the info. As you can tell I am just learning about 1911's, I got my first two about 6 months ago and now have 2 more, and am thinking about another one. Anyways thanks again I learned something new there.

Golly Gee! I am sorry that I referred to the grip portion of the frame, as the "grip" :o And I "was" going to treat him to dinner! :p
