I can't seem to find a particular type of 1911 grip. Does anyone know who makes something like this:

For a government model, rubber wrap around grips where the side panels are like double diamond wood grips and the front strap of the grip is similar to something like 30 lpi checkering? basically I have a 1911 with the front strap not checkered and I wanted some wrap around grips to simulate the checkering.

I know Pachmayr makes some but I was hoping to find some that don't have any logos on them.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

These are the closest that I can think of right now. A miss on the wrap around part though.

Thanks. I saw those too. they would be perfect if not for the finger grooves. I could have sworn I've seen some like that but with no finger grooves and a more 'gripy' front strap somewhere. Thanks again.

Are you looking for something similar to original grips from a Colt Delta Elite? They were a hard rubber double diamond pattern grip that had a checkered wraparound frontstrap which sounds to me like what you are describing.

They are also available without Colt or Delta medallions and frequently show up on EvilBay. I think I have also seen them in Sportsmans' guide.

They are not usually very expensive and a good alternative to expensive frontstrap checkering but then so is traction tape like they use on skateboards and such.

BTW I didn't look at the link Joni gave but by your reply I assume they had finger grooves. Somebody does make an insert that wounts under your grips and wraps around the frontstrap... Is it Wilson Combat? It might be worth a look.

I will check the Wilson combat grip thing out. And yes, come to think of it I do like the grips from the delta elites. Thats probably what I was thinking of. Thanks again, I'll see what I can find.

Edit to add:

Those grips looked like they might be what I needed, too; a wraparound grip lighter than my old steel backed Pachmayrs, so I could make weight for IDPA CDP without stripping down my gun. I e-mailed Mr Serva to ask what the backer on his grips was made of. He responded in less than 30 minutes on New Year's Eve. Now THAT is service.

Get whatever grip panels you like and go to your local skateboard shop. Ask them for some skateboard tape, it's an rubber, self-sticking tape, which is textured like a sandpaper on the one side. Stick a piece of it on your front strap and you are done.
