I really like the nostalgia of the Springfield GI model but I want to make sure that it will shoot hollow points OK before I purchase.

Your input is appreciated.

I don't see why they would not be able to shoot Hollow Points. I don't have the Springer, however my RIA GI is quite reliable with HP's

The reason that I ask is that Springfield does not advertise a throated barrel and polished feed ramp for the GI model like they do on the Mil-Spek model and up.

With the prevalence of high-grade hollow points on the market today, I can't imagine any manufacturer selling guns that won't feed them reliably, especially an upper-tier mfg. like Springfield. Shouldn't be an issue, IMO.

That's what I was thinking too. I am pretty sure that I will be OK with the hollow points but I was hoping that somebody had some experience with the GI model to confirm.

Sure appreciate your help!

I've had a GI model for a year now. It feeds hollow points just fine. You should have no problem with it.

Enjoy it.

Same here. I've had my GI for a couple of years and hasn't given me a problem with HP ammo. Make sure you use good magazines.

The OEM mag isn't what I would call a good magazine....

I'm thinking about getting a GI myself. What magazines would you recommend for it?

I have the GI Champion with the 4 1/4 inch barrel. It has the bushingless barrel and the also the barrel has a ramp built onto it. You could say it is a Commander basically about the same size as the Colt. Mine is all steel. It shoots anything I feed it with the factory Springer mags which to me are excellent mags, made by metalform i believe. They look much like the original WW2 mags that i have.

Mine works fine with the OEM Springfield mags. I also got a couple Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags.

They all work fine and I have no problems with them.

The GI is throated from the factory. It will feed hollowpoints just fine. The factory mags have worked fine for me.

Just picked up my second one. Mine have feed Federal Hydrashock just fine. I only use SA orginal 7 round mags or Wilson 8 round. They have proven themselves to me.

I have had no problem with feeding JHP rounds in either my full-size Mil-Spec nor in my G.I. Micro Compact, so I wouldn't expect you would have any difficulties.

The Checkmate magazines seem to perform very well according to what I've read here. I plan to order some myself when money allows.

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum, but have been visiting it regularly for a few years. I own several pistols but my Springers are a V-12 and a parked GI. The GI feeds anything I feed it, but this was after I tensioned the extractor. I didn't use any fancy tools, I just used a 3/8" hole in my steel bed post and a rag to protect the part.

I use both Chip McCormick 8rd & the stock Springfield mags. The Chip McCormick's have been 100% reliable.

I have a fairly new Milspec ss model. First 200 rounds with Federal hardball no misfeeds. Next 200 rounds with cheap range ammo 2 mis feeds on every mag. Last 200 rnds bact to the Federal ammo no misfeeds. Feed her the good stuff and be happy.
