Howdy all! Just found this forum as I'm in the market for my first 1911 and my first Sig... So, looks like the Sig 1911 is a great choice. :D My question is that I've noticed some stainless models have triggers that have cut-outs in them (not sure the correct name for it) while other triggers are solid yet they are both Stainless GSR's without the rail.

Can someone explain to me why there is a difference?

Thanks!
M

Some of the older SIGS GSR are still around and very well made. They had parts from EGW, Caspain, and Wilson parts in them the triggers with the cut outs are Caspain trik triggers the solid ones are the newer models.

Different times in production / supply lines. Same reason some of them have the "manhole" cover and others don't. I hazard a guess that you will find more standardized pistols in the higher serial number ranges.

I have a stainless GSR compact and mine came with the solid trigger. I switched it out for a cylinder&slide aluminum drilled unit and it is much better now.

As far as I know all the new production GSR's come with the solid trigger, is the only part of my GSR that I really don't like!

I have an earlier # GSR (mid 6000) and it came from Sig as a CPO w/ a full trigger too

The trigger change occurred subsequent to SIG assuming receiver and slide production from their previous vender, Caspian. I don't know who the previous and current trigger vendors are, or if SIG makes them in-house now. As has been mentioned, there was some overlap with this, and other parts between the "first generation" (Caspian receivers, slides, Storm Lake barrels) and "second generation" (SIG-produced slides, receivers, barrels) GSR's. Apparently, it took SIGARMS awhile to purge their previous existing small parts inventories, so it took awhile for the solid triggers to supplant the previous "holed" triggers.

While ALL "first generation"/Caspian slides will have the "manhole" firing pin safety access port on the right side of the slide, SOME of the subsequent SIG-produced "second generation" slides will have it, and some won't-there was a manufacturing change regarding the method of securing the firing pin safety components that occurred subsequent to the "second generation" production-again, it appears that parts inventories were drawn down through production consumption, and I saw concurently produced GSR's both with and without the "manhole" cover for a period while this occurred.

Best, Jon

I've got a November 06 one with the rail: it's got the solid trigger and no manhole cover.
