Trigger length question

What is the correct method for determining the trigger length that is best for any individual shooter?

The only method that I am aware of is the shooters personal preference. A medium length trigger fits most. Some prefer long triggers, others short. I shoot best with the medium trigger, however the short trigger works well for me with an arched MSH. While the long triggers, do not work as well for me.

Shoot pistols with each length trigger and see which one you like.

You want the pad of the trigger finger to fit comfortably on the trigger face, not the joint at the knuckle. If a long trigger makes you have to stretch to get on the trigger, try shorter. If a short trigger means your natural grip puts the joint on the face of the trigger, go longer.

Hi bbeard,

take out the trigger of your gun, tape the open slot with scotch tape two times (reduces elasticity) and put a piece of plastilin or other plastic deformable matter in the trigger guard, pressed to the rear but long enough to be too long for a good shooting finger position.

Grip the pistol as if you were shooting, but look at it from above.
Place the padd of your index finger on the plastilin and slowly squeeze until the tip of your finger is as perfectly perpendicular to the bore axis as you can eye-gauge.

Measure the distance of the imprint to both inside of triggerguard and to frame. (Re-adding both measures should give you the distance fron frame to trigger-guard...just to be sure.)

Now you know without trial and error what you will need.
