In my first attempt at fitting some parts, I'm trying to install a Fusion MSH into my GI model. The problem that I'm having is getting the pin back into the MSH, after swapping out the mainspring. Being a complete novice, I've tried a padded vice and some other methods to compress the mainspring, to no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have both a 23lb and 17lb mainspring, but my intent is to keep the 23lb.

Stand the MSH up. Compress the plunger with a punch. Insert retaining pin. Lube rails of MSH. Slide it onto the frame. Make sure the hammer is down. Get the pin started and knock it through.

SeabeeDiver, this is what I use. I insert the main spring, invert the MSH, and place it over the "tool" then press down to depress the spring and insert the pin. Easy as pie!

There a lot of different posts with different tools and methods.

I found that growing a third arm helped me out a lot with this.
Probably should have just asked for a friend to pop the pin thru while I compressed the spring with two hands though....

clughog, that's a great idea. I have been wondering what to do with the leftover hardware from those old Sauder furniture pieces. ;) . Greg

I just put a punch in the vice, does the same thing..........
