I have an RIA I'm routinely upgrading. I'm considering upgrading the internal parts of the gun, but I'm confused as to what parts really are an upgrade. Specifically, I was under the impression MIM parts were "okay", and bar stock, wire cut, etc. were upgrades. However, when I looked at the Brownell's catalog I see a lot of name manufactures also selling MIM.

Opinions?

A lot of manufacturers sell MIM parts precisely because they are okay. That doesn't mean that bar stock or tool steel parts aren't better.

Just as an example, click the Brownells logo in the sponsor panel and look up Wilson Combat hammers and sears. You'll find that Wilson sells a MIM hammer and sear set that they call their "value line." Then they also sell a better line. The parts look virtually identical, but the MIM parts cost about half what the tool steel parts cost.

I'm sure both are "okay" -- I hope so, because I have a Wilsom value line set in a pistol. But I think the tool steel (or bar stock) parts are better.

Thanks for the information. That makes perfect sense.
