I just found and purchased a Series 80 Combat Elite in .45ACP at a gunshow. It has target sights and is enhanced. I field stripped it at the show and could find nothing wrong with it. It had no wear, and came with a 8 round Colt magazine with a McCormick follower. Wear is about 98% with dirt. Barrel and breech are pristine, probably never fired.
I gave $600 for this pistol, but could not find it listed specifically with target sights in the Blue Book. I figured that $600 was less than a NRM, so I was OK.

Did I do OK? Did I bend over and spell run unknowingly? I haven't shot it yet, will do that this afternoon after a good cleaning, lubing and swapping in a flat MSH.
Plans:
Ed Brown grip safety
Ed Brown thumb safety
Ed Brown flat MSH
McCormick trigger when I can get one

Perfect gun!
And on your improvements list, check the "Snake-skin" MSH. I have one on my Springfield and I love it.

That's a sweet pistol and a really sweet deal :D! Congratulations!
There's something spiffy about 2-tone 1911's when they're done right; like the Combat Elite's, etc. $600-bucks is a great deal on a CE in that kind of shape.

Ditto on the great deal............and the Ed Brown Snakeskin. I've got them on all my guns now. Just enough grip to keep your hand on the gun, but not sharp enough to leave the checkered pattern on your hand.

XavierBreath,
Sweet piece and I am just down right jealous. I was going to get a six shooter next, now I am going to be looking for one of these next. Saw the same model on gunbroker.com for $800. The only thing is I am reluctant to put out that kind of cash without first seing the gun in person. I can only hope I get as lucky as you did.
Question for all, is the Special Combat Government model the latest version of the Combat Elite? Just asking because it seems to have alot of the same features as the enhanced Combat Elite.

I just got back from the range, and the pistol is a keeper. Thanks for the kind words.

Nice buy! I got mine a few weeks ago, and I love it. I have put about 150 rounds through it so far, and every one of them put a smile on my face.

The Combat Elite is finished (for now). Hopefully I will be shooting it a little better tomorrow at the range.

Great deal on the pistol. I have had one over many years with no problems. I am not sure about switching out the factory Colt parts. I know Wilson Combat makes fine parts but you already have the finest pistol made a Colt 1911 if it ain't broke don't fix it
