I took a 1911 pistolsmith class from Larry Vickers in November. Here are the results. The video was taken while it was still in the white and shows the pistol feeding very slowly and smoothly.

Very nice.
I noticed you used a Caspian frame. Is it possible to order directly from Caspian or do you have to have an FFL? Is it possible to get the same frame from Caspian that Nighthawk uses for the Vickers model?
Congratulations,
Gladdly

I've been drooling over this pistol for nearly a week while lurking at 10-8. It must have been great fun learning from Mr. Vickers and building this yourself.
Welcome to the forum sir.

Thanks to all for your kind words. I was very happy with the finished product.
Yes, you can get the same frame like the NH Vickers model. Mine does not have the integral plunger tube because Larry wanted us to fit the plunger tube.
You will need to go through an FFL to order from Caspian.
The finish is Melonite.

HK,
I think your pistol is absolutely stunning! The smooth sides, free of all the more and more gawdy namebrands and the perfect finish combine with the grips to make a package that would stop a show where your pistol was stood up amongst the products of any custom maker you care to name.
Melonite you say. I need to find out more about that stuff.

hk24, may I ask who did your Melonite finish? I've been thinking that I might like to have one of my P7M8s finished in Melonite.

Lynn,
Very nice 1911! As others said, i'd be incredibly proud of a build like that. The whole "package" looks great.
If you don't mind, i'm interested in the trigger and the thumb-safety...the manufacturer...and did you do anything, in terms of shaping, to the safety (or did it essentially come that way)?
Again, very, very nice!

Grieder short trigger and Wilson Combat single sided tactical safety. It came somewhat beveled, I just did more work to it.

Thanks! I'm thinkin' about using the Grieder on a build i'm working on (or, rather, my 'smith is) for a Commander.
I like the work to the thumb safety...looks great!

Very nice. I had a Kimber refinished in Melonite, and while it's resistant to just about everything, it doesn't look as nice as that.

HK24,
Was this a class for people that already have formal smithing experience? Or is it a basic from the ground up? Do you know if he regularly offers it? I have looked on his website and can't find any info on there about this type of class. I would love to take a class like that from Vickers, any info you could give me would be great!
Thanks a bunch.
