Inherited a Colt 1911. Also Colt 22LR conversion. All in good condition with only minor wear to finish and wood grips. Should I shoot it either way or just admire it. Right side of slide reads: Model of 1911 U.S. Army and right frame is stamped No 299900 (o is underlined) Left slide is stamped Patented Apr 20,1897,Sept 9,1902 Dec Dec 19,1905, Feb 14, 1911, Aug19,1913 and Colt's PT FA Mfg Co Hartford, CT U.S.A. and a rearing stallion at the back edge. Left side frame has United States Property and AA just above the trigger guard. Also, the barrel has a 5 stamped on the top.

The frame and slide appear to be not quite a match. I have a M1911 in the 296,000 range, and it has the rampant colt in the middle of the slide, where it should be on a gun with a number as high as yours. The AA stamp indicates it was refurbished at Augusta Arsenal, where they surely didn't care that future collectors would be concerned with "matching" frames and slides. Let's hear about the Conversion Unit!

You don't tell us what finish is on the pistol. I assume it's Parkerized because you say it has the AA stamp?
I agree, more information is necessary.

Don't doubt that it is a "mix". Father-in-law was in NG until some time in 60's. May have been done by AA or someone in guard. Had an A1 in the Army in 65-67 that had been worked on several times. Never failed. What more info is needed?
