I want to put a single sided thumb safety on my Kimber. Could anyone give me some pointers on how to remove the current ambi safety?

No. It's the style without the tang under the right grip.

Remove the slide. Then remove the left side of the safety in the normal way. The right one can be removed then by moving it down.

As John SAid thats the way to do it you will need a new Hammer pin though so it fits flush or you will have a hammer pins sticking way out that the Ambi was hooked to
What are you going to do with the ambi after wards?

I was probably going to toss it, seeing as how I don't really know anyone locally who shoots 1911's and wants an ambi safety. Bud, is there a reason that the hammer pin sticks out to where the safety hooks onto it? Is that the way the part is designed?

Although it really has nothing to do with the safety, I decided I will also replace the hammer, sear, and disconnector with ones made by Nowlin. I'm also going to put in a new hammer strut from EGW and a solid trigger from Nighthawk Custom.

yes its designed that way for that style of safety to keep you from having the tang under the grips ..but normally the hammer pin is almost flat to the frame .. if your gonna pitch it pitch it my way and tell me what ya want for it $..
