I've got a couple of colts for carry use, but this is my competition gun and is the most accurate 1911 I've ever shot, total tack driver.
It's a budget gun, nothing fancy;
Essex slide
Double star frame, SS barrel, SS barrel bushing, SS firing pin.
Wilson combat trigger group, springs, safeties etc.

Nice work. And the best part, IMHO, is knowing you did it yourself. My homebuilts are my favorite guns by far, just that satisfaction alone is worth more than any price I could put on them.

It's a shooter, not a show'r.
It's been in a constant state of evolution since last year.
It's gone through about three different phases, right now it's just about where I want it, going to change the sights this winter, that should be about it.

What kind of sight are you going to switch to? I've got a Yost-Bonitz professional rear that is eventually going to be installed on my slide, if my buddy ever gets around to keeping his word. They are really excellent fixed sights, good looking too, but sadly they are not going to be available anymore...unless Lou Bonitz decides to keep making them since him and Ted Yost have parted company. I think Lou's new shop is called Grizzly Customs or something similar. You may be able to pick up one somewhere on the net if you look around, they are worth it!

I have an mgw front sight on order with brownells, the original sight I installed was an old Colt gold cup or match type of sight that wasn't the correct hight for the rear sight I installed, hence the gun allways shot low, it groups great, but allways to low.

That is an awesome 1911! It further affirms my conviction to stop purchasing factory-built 1911s.
In the past 3 years, I have purchased more 1911s than I care to admit. I just purchased my sixth (6th) defective 1911! All of these defective 1911s were out of the "Custom Shop", which leads me to question if QC even exists. The aforementioned is the motivation. The following is the solution. Given my extensive interest in the 1911, it's time I start purchasing the parts, get the education and start building my own. You have inspired me to do so!
I hope mine will turn out as nicely. Thank-you!
