I ran across a US property .45 today. I got out my small Clawson book and I think I have figured out what it is. The serial on the frame is 12718xx. From looking at the book it should be a 1944 Ithaca. The frame is stamped m1911 US ARMY on the right just ahead of the trigger guard. It has an F proof mark on the left side of the frame where the trigger has the relief cut. The slide is a colt and has M1911 US ARMY on the right side just above where it is on the frame. It also has P infornt of the rear sight. The small Clawson book says this is a spare slide. The slide stop is WWI and so is the mainspring housing. Upon disassembly the barrel says colt 45 auto on the left side next to where the slide release goes through. I think this is 1945. This gun does not look to be refinished and looks to have been used this way for a long time. Some of the finish is still there and would call it about 60-70% original finish. I know that many guns left the arsenal this way and don't have a problem with that. I don't know what one should pay for a gun like this. It has a tag of $1000.00. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
