I notice some minor external changes but what about internal? Can it fire JHP? Does it jam at a higher rate than the A1? What's the disadvantage?

Based on my own experience:
Internal- Same
Fire JHP- Yes
Jam at higher rate- No, why would it?
Disadvantage-None that I can think of right now.

thanks for responding. I think that the 1911(not A1) could possibly jam more frequently becuase I noticed a smaller ejection port than the A1.

The ejection port is lowered more to avoid dinging brass (think: reloading) than for reliability. I guess it's feasible that an empty would get hung up, but off all the ways a 1911 can jam, I've never seen that one.

Ejection ports on all G.I. pistols are the same; they didn't change from M1911 to M1911A1. Neither pistol will be at its best with JHPs, as the military pistols were designed to feed only hardball. I've shot JHPs through a 1912 Colt, and it ran fine, but I wouldn't count on it. Modern JHPs are often much closer to hardball in profile than were early JHPs, but a large opening in the nose may still catch on something on its way to the chamber.

My 1970"s government model does have occassional jamming problems with the JHP's; but, my M1991 Compact does not. Go figure.

My Mom would read the story of Billy Goat Gruff and the troll to me when I was quite young, and I always wanted the troll to win.l Mom told my then wife-to-be the story.ever since when I mess up you can imagine what I get called. So, I am used to being called troll.
I will examine the barresl of each of my Colts and look at your photo, and holler back. Thank you for the photo.
